L.A. Metro identifies expanding telecommuting as early action item to fight against COVID-19

The agency has launched a survey with researchers to study behavior and attitude around telecommuting.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Recovery Task Force has identified expanding telecommuting as an early action item, recommending major employers to capitalize on telecommuting in more strategic ways as the world navigates and emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Telecommuting and staggered work hours can protect employees now, while also solving congestion on roads in the future. In order to lead by example, L.A. Metro says it is working on updating its own telecommuting policy and implementing other work flexibility plans moving forward.

L.A. Metro’s Transportation Demand Management/Shared Mobility group works closely with employers regulated by the South Coast Air Quality Management District, providing guidance on mobility options and encouraging them to create telecommuting polices to reduce the number of employees that drive alone.

In order to better understand and advise how telecommuting might be further leveraged as a tool to manage traffic, L.A. Metro is working with researchers at the Center for Advanced Hindsight at Duke University in conjunction with the Harvard Business School to conduct a study of behavior and attitudes around telecommuting. L.A. Metro says it is looking for people to take a survey about their experience working remotely and/or managing remote workers prior to and during the ongoing pandemic.

Completing the survey takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes and respondents will have the option to enter a drawing for a $200 VISA gift card upon completion. Responses are completely confidential.
