The award honors innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) has awarded Palm Tran the Achievement Award in the category of Transportation, which recognizes innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.  Palm Tran received the award for launching Go Glades, a transportation solution for a rural area of Florida. Go Glades is a dial-a-ride service and previously operated four circulator routes, with the ability for vehicles to deviate to pick up a rider, if the deviation is scheduled in advance.

“It is an honor to receive recognition from NACo for the Go Glades program,” said Palm Tran Executive Director Clinton B. Forbes.  “The Go Glades program is improving accessibility for some of Palm Beach County’s most vulnerable populations, which exemplifies part of Palm Tran’s mission to provide access to opportunity for everyone; safely, efficiently and courteously.”

Since launching, Palm Tran says on-time performance has consistently reached numbers upwards of 84 percent. In addition, Palm Tran accomplished boosting the Glades, economy hiring more than 20 drivers locally.

Started in 1970, NACo’s annual Achievement Awards program is designed to recognize county government innovations.

“We are seeing firsthand now more than ever that counties work tirelessly to support our residents," said NACo President Mary Ann Borgeson. "This year’s Achievement Award-winning programs showcase how counties build healthy, safe and vibrant communities across America.”
