May 18, 2020
The plan includes an evaluation of existing and potential funding sources and explores how to leverage available technology, among other things.

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada’s planning department, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), has released a draft of its Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan (Coordinated Transportation Plan), which aims to enhance mobility for vulnerable populations including seniors, people with disabilities and low-income individuals.

One aspect of the plan looks at how to better utilize the existing supplemental transportation services. This includes both private and public transportation providers like the RTC’s Silver Star Routes and Veterans Medical Transportation Network, as well as the Southern Nevada Transit Coalition, Helping Hands of Vegas Valley and more.

A public comment period will continue until May 31, 2020, to weigh-in on the draft plan. In collaboration with public, private and non-profit transportation and human service providers, the draft plan includes:

  • A list of agencies and organization that provide transportation services;
  • Transportation needs, duplicated services and regional service area gaps; and
  • Evaluation of existing and potential funding sources.
  • The proposed goals of the Coordinated Transportation Plan are to:
  • Expand mobility options and resources;
  • Increase awareness of transportation options;
  • Leverage available technology;
  • Improve connections to transit facilities; and
  • Expand regional collaboration among entities and social service organizations.

This plan is an update to the 2015 Southern Nevada Coordinated Transportation Plan.
