The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) appointed Kumi Walker to the board of trustees.

Walker was officially welcomed on Sept. 25 during COTA’s monthly board of trustees meeting. He was appointed by the city of Bexley for a three-year term, which expires April 2022.

Since February 2018, Walker has served as the chief business development and strategy officer at Root Insurance in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to Root, Kumi held leadership roles with extensive business development experience across consumer and technology companies. Most recently, he led global platform business development at Twitter and was a founding general manager of Twitter’s premium live video business.

"I am humbled, grateful and excited to join the COTA Board of Trustees,” Walker said. “As a father and community member, COTA's vision of connecting people to prosperity through transportation using innovation, dedication and teamwork is deeply aligned with my personal values. In my professional life at Root, our company is committed to safe drivers and making the roads safer for all citizens. COTA's mission of ‘Moving Every Life Forward’ plays a vital role in creating fair and equitable opportunities to families across central Ohio. I look forward to serving the board, this mission and the community over the next three years."

Walker and his family moved to Columbus in 2018. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University and master’s degree from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
