Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority employees will kick-off the Authority’s ninth annual “Stop Hunger at Your Station” food drive with a visit to Philabundance’s Hunger Relief Center, where the employee ambassadors will volunteer to sort and pack supplemental and emergency food items for those in need.

SEPTA’s food drive, to be held June 12-23, will help Philabundance “squash” childhood hunger in the Greater Philadelphia region; the end of the academic year means hundreds of thousands of local children will no longer receive the free and reduced-cost meals they are given at school.

In 2016, SEPTA customers and employees contributed the equivalent of 33,500 meals for Philabundance and its member agencies. Since 2009, SEPTA customers and employees have donated approximately 139,000 pounds of food and $62,000 — that’s more than 264,000 meals — to Philabundance. During this year’s two-week “Stop Hunger at Your Station” food drive, the Authority will collect donations of much needed food staples including peanut butter, canned tuna and meat, whole grain pasta and canned fruits and vegetables to help provide local children with nutritious meals during the summer months.
