On Wednesday, February 1, the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) swore in City of Corpus Christi appointee, Abel Alonzo to replace Conrado Garcia.
During his time, Abel Alonzo will serve by supporting the mission and values of the CCRTA by; developing policy, providing legal and judiciary oversight, working directly with the CEO, Jorge Cruz-Aedo, and its various departments, focusing on good financial stewardship and accountability of public funds, advocating for customer representation and engaging in strategic planning.
Alonzo is a pillar within the community and an advocate for various organizations as well as founder and chairman of “Nueces County I Believe in Me.” Alonzo is extremely passionate about the CCRTA and has served as a member on the board of directs two previous times as well as the CCRTA’s advisory board for persons with disabilities known as the RCAT Board.
Alonzo’s goal is to “Continue to help run the agency in an efficient and effective manner and continue to make our community proud of the RTA.”
The CCRTA has an eleven member board consisting of five appointees by the City of Corpus Christi, two appointees by the Small Cities’ Mayors Committee, and three appointees by Nueces County with a board appointed chairperson. The Board also utilizes two (2) standing committees. Members of the committees are appointed by the Board Chair subject to confirmation by the Board. All policy issues and operational matters must first pass through the Administration Committee or the Operations Committee before action can be taken by the Board.
