Since it was launched in 2009, the Panel has awarded over £113,500 to charities and groups across the UK.
The Charity Panel itself is made up of employee representatives from across National Express Group’s UK bus, coach and rail businesses who meet quarterly to review applications for donations from other employees who volunteer their own time to help community groups, or actively take part in fundraising activities to raise money for their chosen charities.
Some of the charities and groups that received donations in 2016 include: Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Daybreaks Trust, The Archie Foundation, Balsall Heath CATS, 20th Walsall Scout Group, Ronald McDonald House and Arbroath United Cricket Club.
Paul Nash, driver training officer at National Express West Midlands, successfully secured a donation towards new kit for a local football team that he is involved with.
Paul said: “I got involved with coaching the Alvechurch Lions several years ago. I joined so that local youngsters have the opportunity to be active and have fun whilst learning how to be part of a team. With our limited club funds the U14s team hadn’t had any new kit for a few seasons so I’m really grateful to the National Express Employee Charity Panel for giving us £300 towards our new kit. I think the boys look brilliant!”
