The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will partner with TransitCenter of New York, a national foundation committed to improving urban transportation, and Investing in Place, a Los Angeles-based organization committed to improving urban transportation, for an exclusive lunchtime conversation about agencies working together to advance progressive transportation policy and regional investments.
The Forum will take place on Tuesday, May 10 in the ticket room at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Speakers at the forum include Metro CEO Phillip A. Washington and Shin-pei Tsay, Deputy Executive Director for TransitCenter.
The panel for the lunchtime forum will include: Metro’s Chief Planning Officer Therese McMillan; Robert Grow, CEO of Envision Utah; Annise Parker, former Mayor of Houston, and; Jessica Meaney, managing partner for Investing in Place.
The forum called “-Leading for Change: What will be Los Angeles’s Transportation Story?“-will feature experts from around the United States who will discuss how civic leaders and agencies can better coordinate their transportation plans with the needs of the community.
Metro will present its vision for mobility future in Los Angeles County. Special guests from Los Angeles and around the country will discuss how their communities mobilized to improve public transit systems and other mobility options.
To frame the conversation, TransitCenter will present findings on its recent report, “A People’s History of Recent Transportation Innovation,” which draws on case studies of how transportation was improved in six U.S. cities. The report showed that leadership from all sides is required for true transformation: a robust resident-led civic sector, bold government leadership and agency staff empowered to implement the plan.
