Five Good Things in Transit for May 15

May 15, 2020
While we think transit is always worth celebrating, our weekly round up of feel good posts looks at how transit is helping mark milestones.

For this edition of “Five Good Things” we will be looking at celebrations. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other milestones look much different this year, but these events can still be observed in festive ways with transit playing a role.

We will begin with the big one: Mother’s Day. Many agencies gave a shout out to moms everywhere and the good folks at the Washington State Department of Transportation made one duck mom’s day extra special.

While we do not know if Betty is a mother or not, we think she should be included for remaining spry at any age and a hat tip to Whatcom Transportation Authority for helping Betty with her essential travel.

Next, we move to graduations. Without formal ceremonies, the Class of 2020 is finding alternative ways to celebrate. For these grads below, transit played a big role in their journeys.

Birthdays are another celebration that is tough to observe properly in the era of physical distancing, but these transit buffs and transit systems found a way. Hopefully, everyone’s cake tasted as good as the GO Transit cake looks.

You knew we were going to work in an appreciation post or two. The Clarksville Transit System (CTS) in Tennessee devoted an entire week to recognizing the work its employees have performed and the dedication they have shown to the city of Clarksville. In a separate post, Houston Metro operators were shown some love from a local Park & Ride.

While it might not count as a celebration, we think securing a celebrity endorsement is something to celebrate. Ludacris and Mike Will Made-It are collaborating with Carla “Nikki G” Griffin, founder of Atlanta Sewing Style, to fashion thousands of protective mask coverings for MARTA employees working on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic. Ludacris himself took to Twitter to share his love for MARTA.
