HNTB Corporation has named Cheryle Tyson as a national transit/rail consultant, based in the firm's Plano, Texas, office. HNTB says Tyson will focus on advancing the growth of HNTB’s profile in the transit industry while providing strategic advice to the firm’s transit team and clients nationwide.
Tyson served as a regional engineer for Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Region 6 during the past 22 years and brings more than 30 years of design, project and program management experience to HNTB.
Her responsibilities at FTA included engineering review of grants, grant management, oversight of three Project Management Oversight Contractors and attendance at oversight reviews. She saw multiple complex projects from grant implementation to completion of construction, including Tulsa Downtown Transit Center, McAllen Intermodal Center, Waco Intermodal Center, Waco Admin and Maintenance Facility, Albuquerque Alvarado Intermodal Center and Oklahoma City Downtown Transit Center.
Additionally, while at FTA, Tyson provided oversight for Capital Investment Grant (CIG) projects, all of which were delivered on time or early, and within budget and scope. Her CIG projects included: Little Rock River Rail Streetcar; Dallas Area Rapid Transit Green Line; DART Orange Line Phase 2 and 3; Houston METRO North Corridor Light Rail Extension; Houston METRO Southeast Light Rail; Dallas Streetcar; Albuquerque Rapid Transit Project; and Uptown Dedicated Bus Lanes (Houston).
“Cheryle is widely known throughout the industry as a proven leader, innovator, strategist and trusted advisor,” said Kimberly Slaughter, HNTB transit/rail practice leader and senior vice president. “Her knowledge and experience working with federal agencies is of great value to transit agencies and important to our team as we consult on policy issues and changes.”
