Pierce Transit Proposing New Adult Monthly Bus Pass

Oct. 4, 2018
Pierce Transit is considering introducing a new adult monthly pass that would be valid for rides on Pierce Transit fixed-route buses.

Pierce Transit is considering introducing a new adult monthly pass that would be valid for rides on Pierce Transit fixed-route buses.

Currently, the only adult monthly pass option available for Pierce Transit riders is the $72 monthly regional pass, which is also good for fares on other regional services. The agency is proposing a lower-priced adult monthly pass for use only on Pierce Transit local bus service. At a cost of $62, the pass would save riders $10 a month over the regional pass.

For customers’ convenience, Pierce Transit is proposing two options for purchasing and using the new pass:

  • Customers may load the pass on an ORCA card and use it for unlimited rides on Pierce Transit buses during the calendar month it is purchased; or
  • Customers may purchase the pass on “PiercePay” through the Hopthru app on mobile devices. This would be a “rolling” pass, which would begin the day it is activated and be valid for 30 days, even if that 30 days crossed from one month to another.

Pierce Transit is holding a public hearing on the new Pierce Transit-specific adult monthly pass proposal during the next Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners’ meeting.

The Pierce Transit Board is expected to vote on the new proposed pass at its Nov. 15 meeting, which begins at 9 a.m. at the location listed above. If adopted, the new pass would be implemented Jan. 1, 2019.
