UCI Unveiled Electric Anteater Express Fleet for Earth Day

UC Irvine’s Anteater Express shuttle program is the FIRST in the nation to have a fully electric fleet at any university. Associated Students UC Irvine president Lydia Natoolo welcomes VIPs and students to an event celebrating the fleet.

At an Earth Day celebration held Saturday on the campus of UC Irvine, officials unveiled the latest additions to the "Anteater Express", a fleet of electric buses for the student-funded and -operated shuttle service.

The Anteater Express shuttle makes UCI the first university in the nation to have a fully electric fleet transit fleet, officials said. 

“Electric vehicles aren’t a far-off technology of the future but are here and ready to be put to good and positive uses," said Stella Li, president of BYD America.

Associated Students UCI President Lydia Natoolo welcomed distinguished guests and students to an unveiling of sorts Saturday at the annual Celebrate UCI event, which coincided with the university’s Earth Day celebration.

"We at UCI are determined to save our global world one sustainable act at a time," she said later. "It was a great moment to behold."
