What’s in a day’s work for a Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority bus operator? It all starts with excellent customer service across 841 square miles, cruising by 1,384 bus stops to transport a daily average of 17,000 passengers. On Friday, March 16, the CCRTA is participating in national “Transit Driver Appreciation Day” to thank the drivers, known as operators, for their hard work and dedication.
“The bus operator is the nucleus of our operations and a family of CCRTA ambassadors to the community. It can be a difficult job and we are thankful for everything they do,” said Managing Director of Operations, Jennifer Fehribach.
The CCRTA is celebrating the drivers with a BBQ Luncheon, a special favorite of the operators. The CCRTA is also encouraging the customers to say “Thank you,” to their drivers on that day and across the weekend.
“We are proud of our operators and of all the hard work they do. They have had to perform under strenuous weather conditions this year and by doing so have proven their dedication to the community,” said Director of Transportation, Derrick Majchszak.
This day comes at a difficult time for the Coastal Bend. Several CCRTA operators and employees lost their homes due to Hurricane Harvey, but they continued to come into work and provide evacuation services for others in need. The operators also dealt with several days of unusually icy weather, which prevented services to certain regions. In each difficult time, the operators rose to the challenge.
The nationally-recognized day will be documented on social media by transit agencies across the United States using the hashtag #tdad. The CCRTA is always looking for ways to improve services to the community. The goal of the CCRTA is to constantly drive forward in terms of innovation and services.
