Cubic Transportation Systems has announced its support for National Dump the Pump Day on June 15 through its partnership with Chicago’s regional transit agencies.

Cubic Transportation Systems has announced its support for National Dump the Pump Day on June 15 through its partnership with Chicago’s regional transit agencies – Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and Pace. The 12th annual event, led by the American Public Transportation Association, commemorates the usage of public transportation as a great cost-effective alternative to driving.

To thank transit riders of Chicagoland, the developer of the Ventra fare payment system will sponsor complimentary “Coffee from Cubic” with a free cup of coffee to anyone who shows a Ventra card, the Ventra mobile app or a Metra ticket, while supplies last. “Coffee from Cubic” will be available at various locations, including Northwest Transportation Center in Schaumburg, CTA Roosevelt Station, and near Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station.

“We know that access to convenient public transportation is a major factor in attracting businesses and employees,” said Leanne Redden, RTA executive director. “More than 60 percent of those who work in and around Chicago’s Loop take public transit to get there. On Dump the Pump Day, we celebrate our regular riders as well as those who don’t usually ride our system, asking them all to ‘dump the gas pump’ for at least one day.”

“By partnering with RTA, CTA, Pace and Metra, we want to show our commitment to the region and our dedication to public transportation,” said Sushil Rajendran, vice president and general manager, Central Region, Americas, for CTS. “The Ventra system is one of the most advanced public transportation systems in the world, and we encourage drivers to experience the convenience by giving up their cars for the day.”

Launched in 2013, Ventra supports both account-based processing through an agency-issued contactless smart card, as well as open payment, which enables customers to “pay as they go” with bank cards they already have, or through mobile payment platforms such as Apple Pay, Android Pay or Samsung Pay.
