SamTrans and Caltrain are asking Bay Area drivers to demonstrate how easy it is to replace a car trip with a transit trip for Dump the Pump Day this Thursday, June 15.
This year marks the 12th annual National Dump the Pump Day. The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) launched the campaign in 2006 as a way of getting drivers out of their cars just as gas prices were climbing past $3 per gallon.
To commemorate the day, both the SamTrans and Caltrain Board of Directors at their June meetings proclaimed June 15 as Dump the Pump Day and encouraged everyone to ride public transportation, save money, and help reduce fuel emissions. By downsizing to one car, a two-person household can save an average of more than $9,823.
SamTrans and Caltrain invite members of the community to join the Dump the Pump campaign by leaving their cars at home and tweeting, posting to Instagram or using some other social media tool with the hashtag #DumpthePump to document their experience.
