The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County has invited everyone to Dump the Pump and free themselves from unpredictable gas prices. As part of this national movement, people may ride RTC transit services for free on Thursday, June 15th. In addition to riding transit, people may participate simply by choosing to walk, bike, carpool and vanpool. This is the 12th year for Dump the Pump, which was created by the American Public Transportation Association.
“This is a great opportunity for those who have never ridden the bus before to try it out for the first time,” RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson said. “Taking transit saves money on gas, wear and tear on a vehicle, relieves traffic congestion, creates cleaner air and gives you extra time to text or just relax,” he added.
Everyone who participates in Dump the Pump, and records their trips will receive a complimentary gift. Participants recording their trips by alternative modes will also be eligible for drawings for larger prizes. Trips can be recorded between June 15th and July 31st at: http://www.rtctripmatch.com. The more trips that are recorded, the more chances one has to win a big prize.
Bus riders who record their green trips are eligible to win a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7-inch tablet. Walkers recording trips have the chance to win a Fitbit Alta Activity Tracker. Bikers recording their green trips could win a TomTom Sparks Music GPS fitness watch. Those recording their carpool or vanpool could win Bose SoundSport In-Ear Headphones.
