Palm Tran's new executive director Clinton B. Forbes introduced the idea to install hand sanitizer dispensers on buses based on his previous experience of implementing them at the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).   Others transit agencies in Florida and elsewhere have utilized these dispensers as best practice.

“Using soap and water is the most desirable aspect for hand washing, but we are not always around soap and water, and that’s why it’s important to have hand sanitizer as a supplement.  Palm Tran’s fleet of buses see upwards of 30,000 people a day, so we need to do our part, especially in the cold and flu season,” said Palm Tran Executive Director Clinton B. Forbes.

There is currently a prototype dispenser on a new 2016 bus (number 1602) with plans to install more this year.  The equipment is purchased through Palm Beach County’s Purchasing Warehouse for around $26.13 each (includes dispenser, sanitizer, and wall mount).
