Bradbury Stamm Construction, the firm selected to oversee the construction of the Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) project, announced it will solicit bids primarily from local subcontractors for building ART. The company has bid the first phases of the project to approximately 500 local construction firms. All the bids submitted for the first phase of construction were from New Mexico companies. It is estimated up to 1,000 new jobs will be created during the 14-month construction project.
Groundbreaking is expected to begin in August and the heavy construction aspects of the project will be completed in fall of 2017. Construction crews will work simultaneously along the route from Coors Boulevard to Louisiana Boulevard with staggered work on the north and south sides of the street as well as in the median. Construction is expected to never be directly in front of any one business or storefront longer than 60 days. There also will be at least one lane of traffic open in each direction the entire duration of construction.
The ART team will be providing weekly construction updates, free parking information, recommended detour routes and weekly promotions via an APP that is available on iTunes and the Android Play Store, and via text messages and electronic newsletters.
