The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) anticipates heavy traffic in the Las Vegas Valley during the Fourth of July weekend Friday, July 1, to Monday, July 4, and encourages commuters to plan accordingly.
According to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), an estimated 330,000 people will visit Southern Nevada during the holiday weekend, with 60 percent – or 198,000 – of those traveling by car.
The RTC’s Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) Division advises drivers to expect traffic congestion on I-15 Southbound at Primm between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. with increased delays of an hour or more between noon and 3 p.m. on Monday, July 4.
For those riding transit during the holiday weekend, the RTC’s transit system will operate on a Saturday schedule for Independence Day, Monday, July 4.
Also on Monday, July 4, the RTC will detour Route 210 – Lake Mead Boulevard from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to street closures for the Summerlin Fourth of July Parade. Though detours will be in place, transit service will be provided.
Travelers this holiday weekend are encouraged to download Waze, a free navigation smartphone app, to plan their commutes and join other drivers in Southern Nevada who share real-time traffic and road information. Through its partnership with Waze, the RTC provides construction, crash and road closure data to Waze to provide one of the most succinct, thorough overviews of current road conditions.
