Many aspiring artists spend years looking forward to the day they’ll see their work showcased in public. The wait didn’t take long for a Marcos de Niza High School senior. Cami Lintz is the winner of the 16th annual Design a Transit Wrap contest. Her artwork will be featured on a bus and light rail train for an entire year.

“I think I want to minor in art now,” said 2016 Design a Transit Wrap winner Cami Lintz. “I’ve never had my art on display. You never think you are good at art, until others validate it. This is my validation.”

The newly wrapped bus with the winning design and slogan, For Our Future For Our Home, was unveiled today at Marcos de Niza High School.

“When Valley Metro named two of our students the first and second place winners of the Design a Transit Wrap contest, the impact was so great it may have changed the course of these two young lives,” said Marcos de Niza high school principal Sean McDonald. “Our students believe this recognition of their work has validated their creativity and talent. They are humbled and excited to continue their growth in the arts and are inspired to now explore art as a pathway to successful careers. We are so proud.”

More than 110 students from across the Valley entered the 16th annual contest. Students were encouraged to create artwork that promotes public transit from their point of view.

“Valley Metro is dedicated to engaging local students about public transportation,” said Valley Metro interim CEO Scott Smith. “Through various community outreach efforts, like the Design a Transit Wrap contest, students across the Valley are gaining tremendous understanding, interest and excitement for public transit.”

Second place winner, Marcos de Niza High School sophomore, Ruben Escobar, received $250 for his design. Third place winner, Central High School freshman, Kassandra Hernandez, received $100.
