Embark was recently recognized among regional transit systems by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Oklahoma Transit Association (OTA). The awards recognize contributions in building, promoting and advocating for better transit systems.

Embark was recognized with three awards:

  • OTA System of the Year recognizes Embark for creating innovative programs and effectively leveraging funds to expand service, enhance amenities, increase ridership and deepen relationships in the community all while providing economical and dependable transit service. Embark increased bus frequency, launched free Wi-Fi on all buses, added lighting and shelter to bus stops and added technology tools for real-time transit data and convenient trip planning.
  • OTA Marketing Program of the Year commends Embark for the excellence in marketing initiatives that engage and deepen relationships with customers and the Oklahoma City community through social media, advertising, special events, grassroots communication and media relations. When Embark launched night service in 2015, their marketing and outreach efforts helped Embark reach initial night service ridership goals six months earlier than anticipated.
  • Federal Transit Administration Award of Excellence for Grant Management honors Embark for its effective management, compliance and stewardship of grants to expand service, break down barriers and increase ridership in its service area.

“The new direction of Embark has focused on system improvements; reduced wait times, more frequency and more technology tools to create a better customer experience for our customers,” says Barney Semtner, trustee, Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority.  “These awards are a testament to the focus and vision of the Embark leadership – the board commends the management for implementing multiple priorities and goals smoothly and emerging as an example of good stewardship in our region.”

“These awards recognize our steps in creating a transit system that works for everyone. Night service, technology tools and increased bus frequency were highly requested by our customers and recommended by our consultants as key service enhancements,” notes Jason Ferbrache, Embark administrator. “We have a bright future and aren’t done yet .”
