VIA Metropolitan Transit’s annual Youth Art Contest kicks off March 7, 2016.

VIA Metropolitan Transit’s annual Youth Art Contest kicks off March 7, 2016. All students in the Greater San Antonio Region are eligible to participate. This year’s theme is “Be a Safety Superhero in Our Community,” highlighting how riders can travel safely every day.

Students can illustrate the theme using any medium as long as an official poster board is used. Poster boards are free and can be picked up beginning Monday, March 7, at Via’s Administration Building, 800 W. Myrtle St., or at the VIA Metro Center, 1021 San Pedro Ave.

VIA’s Youth Art Contest is open to students in grades pre-K through 12, and submissions will be accepted through Friday, April 8. The first-place winner from each grade level will receive a $50 award, each second-place winner will receive a $25 award, and the Best of Show winner will receive a $250 award.

Winners from all grade levels will be honored at an awards luncheon scheduled for Thursday, May 12. The winning artwork will be displayed on VIA’s Classroom on Wheels bus for one year. All other submitted entries will be showcased in the interiors of the buses throughout Via’s fleet for the month of June. The Best of Show artwork will be featured on the exterior of two Via buses, courtesy of Clear Channel Outdoor.
