New VIA Fare Structure Takes Effect Jan. 1

Oct. 30, 2015

The Local Governmental Approval Committee (LGAC) has approved a set of fare adjustments for Via Metropolitan Transit that will become effective Jan. 1. The approved fare structure provides new fare discounts for VIA’s riders, including a lower-priced Day Pass, a new 7-Day Pass, and an expansion to the reduced-fare eligibility to include active-duty members of the military.

VIA's Day Pass has been reduced from $4 to $2.75, which means customers will be able to ride VIA for an entire day for what it would cost for one round trip with a transfer. In addition, a new 7-Day Pass will be available and will sell for $12.

VIA has also expanded the reduced-fare eligibility to include active-duty military personnel. Now members of the military will be able to take advantage of VIA’s reduced fares if they ride the bus while in uniform or with a VIA reduced fare ID card.

This is the first set of changes to VIA’s fare structure in almost three years. When the changes take effect in January, VIA will still have among the lowest fares in the nation.
