RTC Encourages Youths to Walk to School
International Walk to School Day is Oct. 7, and members of the RTC staff will join kids in walking to local schools. The event helps teach youths about safety and encourages a healthy lifestyle on Oct. 7 and throughout the year.
“This day is really about teaching kids skills that will be important the rest of their lives, such as: how to safely cross a street, what traffic signals mean and the benefits of exercise and good health,” Washoe County School Police Officer and Safe Routes to School Coordinator MJ McCloud said.
The RTC is a partner in the Safe Routes to School program, which teaches safety skills to local students year-round.
“We’re proud that our projects not only create safety, but we are constantly working hard to educate and inform the public on ways to be safe. Reaching kids helps instill the good fundamentals of safety and healthy lifestyles from early on in life,” RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson said.
The RTC staff will walk with Libby Booth Elementary School students is located at 1450 Stewart Street in Reno. The walk will begin at 8:25 a.m.at Wilkinson Park at 1299 E. Taylor Street in Reno.
