Vix Technology has installed over 100 Access-IS LSR110 barcode readers in fare gates across the Rome Metro system to deliver a citywide “open” system for mobile ticketing.
Vix, who have partnered with ATAC, Rome’s public transport authority, for 14 years on automated fare collection, was selected to upgrade the existing system to allow for next generation mobile ticketing and payments.
The Access-IS devices allow passengers to present their Rome travel ticket using Android or iOS mobile phones, tablets or watches to be validated using either QR codes on the Access-IS readers or via the gates’ in-built NFC antenna.
Giuseppe Russotti, general manager, Vix Technology Italy, said, “The Access-IS readers have helped Vix provide ATAC with a solution that keeps pace with customer demands and easily upgrade their existing closed-loop ticketing system to now include mobile ticketing ”.
