Caltrain, SamTrans to Celebrate Dump the Pump Day

June 4, 2015

Caltrain and SamTrans will celebrate Dump the Pump Day on June 18 by holding events to encourage commuters to get out of their cars and on to public transit.

Representatives from Caltrain and SamTrans will be hosting information tables at the San Jose Diridon Station and Colma Transit Center, respectively, from 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. on June 18. Employees will be handing out transit information and special Dump the Pump-themed giveaways.

The information tables will also include foam board “photobooths” of the front of a Caltrain train and a SamTrans bus. Customers who post pictures of themselves on Twitter posing in the makeshift photobooths along with the hashtag #dumpthepump will be entered into a contest with the chance to win a special prize—a Caltrain or SamTrans-themed messenger bag to carry their gear when traveling on transit.

Backed by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Dump the Pump Day will celebrate its 10th year of existence in 2015. The national event highlights the economic and environmental benefits of taking public transportation.

According to APTA’s latest transit saving report, a family living in San Francisco would save $14,819 a year by using public transportation instead of driving a car. Additionally, public transportation use in the United State reduces the nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons annually.
