Former State Rep. Mark Burkhalter was elected to represent the Sixth Congressional District on the State Transportation Board (STB) by a caucus of state representatives and senators from the Sixth Congressional District (CD6) Feb. 19. Burkhalter’s term begins immediately.
Burkhalter is a senior strategic advisor and independent consultant in the National Government Affairs Practice at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA). He served 18 years in the Georgia General Assembly before moving to MLA. Burkhalter also operated a successful real estate development business.
Representative Matt Dollar nominated Burkhalter for the post, noting that there are 26 boards in state government, but the STB is the only one with members elected by the General Assembly.
Burkhalter thanked the members of CD6 for their support and taking the time to participate in today’s vote. “I know how busy each of you are this time of year, and I am thrilled that you made this a priority. Transportation is a key issue and I am going to be your voice on the Board to help you and your constituents. Thank you again, and I look forward to proving myself as an asset on the State Transportation Board.”
