The Via Metropolitan Transit Police Department played a key role in safely returning three lost children to their mother.
On the evening of Thursday, August 14, three young girls left home without permission to travel to Rivercenter Mall in downtown San Antonio. Two of the girls were 12 years old and one was five years old. They called their mother at about 11:00 p.m. to say they were lost, and the mother called police.
As the San Antonio Police Department searched for the missing children – including using a helicopter – an alert Via Transit Police officer spotted the three girls on a Via bus at St. Mary’s Street and Commerce Street at about 1:00 a.m. He removed the children from the bus and alerted SAPD that they had been found.
The girls were returned to their home safe and unharmed.
