ISR Transit’s VP of US Sales, Brian Frank announced March 4 that the company has been awarded a $12.5 million dollar contract by Broward County Transit (BCT) to implement a turnkey intelligent transportation system that includes automatic vehicle location (AVL), computer aided dispatch (CAD) and the company’s fully automated Transit Yard Solution (TYS).

The fully installed system will also provide an Advanced Real-Time Passenger Information System (APIS) via text messaging, web-enabled smart phones, online trip planning tools, LCD/LED next-generation solarpowered signs, and touch-screen kiosks located throughout the BCT network. Mobility solutions for disabled passengers will also be incorporated into this state of the art solution, as will on-board temperature sensors enabling BCT to monitor and control bus temperatures for maximum passenger comfort.

“We are pleased to have been selected by Broward County for this multi-faceted project.” stated Brian Frank of ISR Transit. “Broward County Transit is a great example of a forward-thinking transit agency whose leadership understands the efficiencies and positive customer experiences gained from implementing a fully integrated CAD/AVL system with real-time yard management and customer information solutions.”

“This is a highly anticipated project,” said Tim Garling, director of the Broward County Transit Division. “Our passengers and BCT staff look forward to the implementation of the CAD/AVL system. This technology will enhance our entire operation by improving the riding experience for our passengers as well as the internal business processes for our public transit operations.”

This award follows the successful implementation of a similar project in Montreal, Canada for Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), the third largest public transit agency in Quebec. ISR Transit, together with Ubisense, a real-time location intelligence company, provided a 100 percent turnkey solution for RTL’s 500-bus vehicle system. ISR will be partnering with Ubisense again in Broward County.
