Natasha Velickovic, P.E., project manager in VHB’s transit and rail group in Boston has been named one of Boston Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” in 2013.

The program recognizes business and civic leaders who together represent the future of talent and commitment in the Boston economy. Velickovic’s professional performance at VHB, paired with her community outreach and personal accomplishments, exemplifies her eligibility for Boston’s 40 Under 40.

Velickovic launched her career at VHB as an intern 15 years ago. Now a leader on the firm’s transit and rail team, she lends her talents and expertise on transportation projects for clients including Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA), Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), and the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT). She specializes in evaluating complex transportation networks and transit alternatives, and developing holistic service planning solutions that stage transportation projects for future funding opportunities. This experience gave Velickovic an opportunity to co-author an American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) publication titled “Opportunities and Roles for Consulting Engineers on P3 Projects” scheduled for release this fall.

Recently, Velickovic played an essential role on the New Bedford Freight Rail Bridge project, teaming with the MBTA, the contractor, the freight railroad, and the city of New Bedford to help make this award-winning project a success during design and construction. She steered the $20 million project funded through the federal TIGER Grant program through construction, an effort that finalized the development ten months ahead of schedule and under budget.

Michael McArdle, VHB director of transit and rail said, “Natasha has been instrumental in helping to grow our transit practice because of her integrity for quality work, optimism, and her deep respect for her clients’ vision. She is the person you want on the team to move your project forward.”

Velickovic contributes to advancing the profession through her involvement in industry organizations, including WTS. She also maintains an active role within the ACEC, serving as a co-chair of the programs committee. Velickovic volunteers with the Steppingstone Foundation, a non-profit organization that develops and implements programs that prepare underserved schoolchildren for educational opportunities that lead to college success.

Velickovic holds her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University.
