First Transit was recently retained by the Estuary Transit District to continue operating and managing its fixed-route, deviated fixed-route and Dial-A-Ride services. The contract will be for three years with two one-year options.

“We have improved efficiency and on-time performance through the use of technology, redesigned routes and schedules to better meet the needs of commuters,” said Joseph Comerford, executive director, First Transit. “We look forward to continuing our efforts and being a part of the district.”

Ridership has increased 80 percent since 2008, when First Transit began serving the residents of lower Middlesex County. In 2011, the Community Transportation Association of America named Estuary Transit District Rural System of the Year.
