Alexandria Transit Company (ATC) announced the addition of Tonya L. McCray as its new director of finance and administration.
In her new position, she will be responsible for overseeing the finance and accounting functions and the coordination of those functions with the city’s systems. In addition, she will be supervising the payroll, human resources, and administrative staff.
“Joining the DASH team has been an incredible opportunity for me. I plan to provide assistance where I can in order to help DASH grow,” said Tonya. “I believe that this is an amazing time for the company and I am just excited to be along for the ride.”
McCray has more than 15 years of experience in the finance and accounting profession. Before joining ATC, she worked as the controller and assistant director of finance at the American Geophysical Union. Throughout her career, McCray has been intimately involved with various day-to-day accounting functions, budgeting and financial management. The majority of her career has been spent serving the non-profit sector.

"Tonya has a passion for accounting, technology and teaching. It brings her great joy to learn about and discuss emerging accounting technologies and this is something that she hopes to bring to DASH during her tenure. Her passion extends beyond the office as she has served in the past as an adjunct professor in the undergraduate school at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) teaching accounting information systems.
McCray holds a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from Howard University and a M.S. in accounting and financial management from UMUC. She has a wonderful husband of 10 years, an energetic seven year old son, an imaginative five year old daughter and a rambunctious ten year old Shih Tzu dog named Tyson. When she is not busy attending sporting events and dance recitals with her children, she loves to travel with her husband, read novels and watch movies.
