Elections may still be a few weeks away, yet the city of Burbank has been busy encouraging both residents and persons employed within the city to choose alternative means of transportation and “Vote Rideshare” during Rideshare Week by offering free rides on the BurbankBus for customers with bicycles or bicycle helmets. More than 100 BurbankBus riders capitalized on the attractive offer, making this year’s Rideshare Week a success.

“The city of Burbank’s network of bikeways makes commuting by bicycle easier than ever, especially when combined with BurbankBus,” noted Adam Emmer, the city’s transportation services manager. “The number of people participating in this year’s Rideshare Week reveals an increasing local trend to adopt a healthy lifestyle including exercise.”

This year’s Rideshare Week promotion was designed to raise awareness for the city’s local transit and bikeway network. The “Vote Rideshare” campaign helped promote the free-ride offer through thematic posters and buttons.

BurbankBus operates four routes during peak hours Monday through Friday with connections to Metrolink, Metro’s NoHo Red Line Station, and the Bob Hope Airport. Bicycle racks are standard equipment on each bus.

“It is a good time to try alternative modes of transportation, especially with recent hikes in gas prices and along with easy access to the Chandler Bikeway,” added Emmer.
