James Shao has been named a senior supervising engineer in the Newark, N.J. office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, planning, engineering and program/construction management organization. In his new position, Shao is responsible for the design and specification of various types of power distribution systems for rail and transit facilities and infrastructure, including main line traction power networks, wayside power equipment and yard/shop maintenance complexes.
He has close to two decades of transit sector experience, providing electrical design and construction support services for electrical and communications projects on behalf of commuter rail operations for Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, Metro North Railroad, New York City Transit, New Jersey Transit, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, and Port Authority Transit Corporation.
Shao holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, N.Y., and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the City College of New York. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association. He is a registered professional engineer in California, Maryland and New York.
