West Hartford was one of several municipalities to receive state funding for transit-oriented development recently.
About $8.5 million in grants was awarded to West Hartford, Hartford, Danbury, Stamford and Torrington, according to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s office, for five projects under an initiative to boost economic activity and create jobs.
West Hartford was awarded $2 million for infrastructure improvements along New Park Avenue and New Britain Avenue to Oakwood Avenue. Those improvements include a “road diet” with a center turn lane, landscaped medians, protected bike lanes, new street signs, lighting, wayfinding signage and a pocket park at the gateway to the Trout Brook Trail, according to Malloy’s office.
