The MTA has hired its first accessibility chief to coordinate efforts to open the subway to more people with mobility issues, transit officials said Monday.

Alex Elegudin will be NYC Transit’s first head of accessibility when he starts next Monday, after working at the Taxi & Limousine Commission managing its program to require certain yellow taxis to handle wheelchairs.

The appointment is part of NYC Transit President Andy Byford’s vow to make accessibility one of his top priorities.
