After 30 years, Rockford Mass Transit District announces plans to renovate and expand its downtown transfer center.
Starting next week, construction crews will begin the process of leveling the old center on State and Court streets and replacing it with a brand new, updated facility.
RMTD says this will offer increased seating capacity as well as more accessible seating, bike storage and better security. Since construction will close off that intersection, the temporary center will be at Court and Mulberry but RMTD says it won't eliminate any bus routes.
