The Senate Finance transportation subcommittee will reconsider its vote on a complex substitute proposal on funding for the Washington-area Metro system — and potentially other transit systems across Virginia — after discovering that it included transit bond funding that some members had thought to be excluded from the bill.

The principal aim of Senate Bill 856, sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Dick Saslaw, D-Fairfax, was to find $154 million in annual funding for Virginia’s share of a $15.5 billion, 10-year plan to rebuild the struggling Metro system and reform its governing board, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
