MA: T Mum on Names of Other GM Candidates

The MBTA is refusing to identify the finalists it considered during the authority’s closed-door search for a new general manager, which included giving physical copies of their resumes to only the T’s top lawyer.

In choosing Luis Ramirez as the T’s new $320,000-a-year general manager, the T did not hold any public interviews and instead relied on an advisory committee to help vet candidates for transportation secretary Stephanie Pollack, who alone had discretion to name the T’s next leader.

The selection of Ramirez, touted by the T as a “turnaround” executive, has come under fire amid revelations that his former company, Global Power Equipment, is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission for alleged erroneous financial statements it filed while Ramirez was CEO.
