IL: City Eyes Electronic Ads on Connect Transit Buses

Cash-strapped Connect Transit could see a new revenue stream from electronic advertisements on the back of their buses in the Twin Cities.

BLOOMINGTON — Cash-strapped Connect Transit could see a new revenue stream from electronic advertisements on the back of their buses in the Twin Cities.

The proposed advertising signs, patented by Nashville-based Uber Displays (no relation to Uber, the ride-hailing company), will have to wait, however, until the Bloomington City Council amends an ordinance that now prohibits such displays as a traffic safety measure. The council is scheduled to discuss the matter at its meeting Monday.

"Connect Transit can sell the advertising, and it's worth a lot of money," said Assistant City Manager Steve Rasmussen. "The amount that would come back to Connect Transit is $250,000 a year."
