Vancouver city councillors will kick off the New Year on a united front to push for a ‘yes’ vote in the spring transit plebiscite.

After a tense election battle, councillors from the two dominant civic parties Vision Vancouver and the Non-Partisan Association seem prepared to put their differences aside to advocate for the 0.5 per cent regional increase to the provincial sales tax to pay for transportation improvements across Metro Vancouver.

NPA Coun. George Affleck will table a motion at the first council meeting asking staff to report back urgently with a strategy for City Hall to support the success of the plebiscite, which will take place via mail-in ballots between March and May.
