A commuter train and a bus collided at a Portland, Ore., intersection, causing traffic delays and slightly injuring several bus passengers, authorities said.
The accident occurred around 7 a.m. Tuesday when a MAX train hit the driver's side of a TriMet bus, The Oregonian reported.
Witnesses said the bus drove through a red light before being hit by the train, the newspaper reported.
"The bus ran the red light and the MAX couldn't stop in time and it collided with the train," Kyle Dittmer, a passenger on the MAX train, said. "The bus clearly went through the red light."
The MAX operator honked the train's horn three or four times before colliding with the bus with "quite a jolt," he said.
Lori Sievert, 49, said she was standing at the southwest corner of the intersection at the crosswalk with a red 'Do not walk' sign when she saw the bus cross the intersection into the path of the oncoming train.
"I am pretty sure that the bus must have been running a light," she said.
"You could tell she was trying to stop," she said of the woman MAX operator.
