A resolution was introduced Tuesday that requested Metro Transit seek full reimbursement for the cost of providing a bus to Republican senators leaving the Capitol area after they voted last week to pass the controversial budget repair bill.

The resolution, sponsored by Alds. Larry Palm, Shiva Bidar-Sielaff and Chris Schmidt, said Capitol Police Chief Charles Tubbs requested the special bus to take the senators from the Risser Justice Building to an East Side location.

The resolution also requests that Metro no longer shuttle state employees and officials other than members of the Capitol or UW-Madison police. Metro would be allowed to coordinate with Madison police to use resources in extraordinary circumstances.

The resolution said there was sufficient time for the senators to arrange for private contracted transportation away from the protests at the Capitol.
