This year's InnoTrans featured the first outdoor bus display VDL Bus & Coach had its zero emission Citea SLFA-181 Electric bus on display. The Citea bus is an articulated low floor bus that is just over 39 feet (12 kilometers); is designed to make the most of passenger flow through a three door layout.

The Citea is outfitted with a 220kW electric motor that takes power through a 122 kWh batter pack. The battery pack is designed to take a fast charge, which takes place during sessions at the last stops of the bus line. VDL explained that the bus route can run all day - taking quick charges when the buses are at rest. Along with being environmentally friendly, the electric motor runs quietly, meaning less invasive noise in quieter route areas.

Other features include:

  • Spacing for 140 passengers
  • BRT-design
  • Draws low energy for longer running time between charges

The Citea buses have been used in test routes in multiple cities, including as part of an E-Mobility project in Germany.
