15 new buses join BC Transit fleet on three systems

Nov. 25, 2020
The vehicles are part of a wider plan to add approximately 70 light-duty buses in select transit systems in B.C. in 2020.

Cowichan Valley Regional Transit System, Revelstoke Transit System and Shuswap Regional Transit System all have new light-duty buses operating on their systems to replace existing diesel buses in their fleets that were nearing the end of their service life.

The 26-foot ARBOC Spirit of Freedom buses can carry up to 21 seated passengers and provide flexibility for up to two mobility aids. Each new bus is equipped with a white LED destination sign, modern vinyl seating, quiet gasoline engine, increased interior lighting, and a rear route number. These features will improve the safety, cleanliness and customer experience for conventional and paratransit service.

The buses come equipped with a temporary vinyl panel installed to protect the health of drivers and passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cowichan Valley Regional Transit System has received five new buses, Revelstoke Transit System received four new vehicles and Shuswap Regional Transit System will see six new buses.

In addition to the 26-foot buses, Shuswap Regional Transit System and Cowichan Valley Regional Transit System received new Micro Bird G5 light-duty buses in August. Two of these vehicles went to Shuswap Regional Transit System and five went to Cowichan Valley Regional Transit System.
