Akron Metro RTA releases first draft of new bus network

Sept. 22, 2021
The draft network was designed to meet the goals of the agency's strategic plan adopted in November 2020.

The Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority (RTA) released its first draft of the Reimagined Network as part of a public engagement process that will run until the end of October 2021.

Reimagine METRO is an effort to develop a detailed service plan and implementation schedule for a redesigned suite of mobility services that meet the goals of Akron Metro RTA's strategic plan, adopted in November 2020. The Reimagine METRO Transit Service Plan is the portion of this effort focusing on the fixed-route service, while future phases will consider the demand response programs and the potential for new mobility options.

The Draft Reimagined Network is the initial plan for what the local bus network could look like if it were designed to meet the goals of the strategic plan to “focus fixed-route services on the highest ridership corridors, and on serving markets where (and for whom) transit is essential.”

Akron Metro RTA now needs to hear from the community about how the Draft Reimagined Network would affect their use of transit to refine the plan. Akron Metro RTA says it encourages members of the public to learn more about the Transit Service Plan and the Draft Reimagined Network at upcoming open houses and take a short online survey.
