Modesto Area Express (MAX) year-to-date ridership on the MAX to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Commuter Express is up by 14 percent over last year. This is a notable and exciting exception to a national trend in public transportation ridership decline.
“The MAX to BART Commuter Express is great for Modesto residents working in Richmond, Oakland, San Francisco, or Fremont,” said Adam Barth, MAX’s Transit Manager. “Riders can get to the BART Dublin/Pleasanton station as early as 6:20 a.m. and they don’t have to worry about parking or gas prices.”
Barth attributes the increase to the MAX to BART trip times, fare affordability, bus comfort, free Wi-Fi and increased convenience of the service. MAX sells one-way, round-tip, seven-day, and 31-day pass options for the MAX to BART Express which provides different levels of financial commitment for Modesto’s long-distance working commuters.
MAX introduced Token Transit last year which allows commuters to purchase passes from their mobile device. Barth credits this technology upgrade with helping MAX increase fare accessibility and convenience. Customers can also plan trips and monitor their buses in real time with the trip planning function on the MAX myStop app.
MAX also provides weekday commuter service to the Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) for Modesto residents working in San Joaquin Valley and Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont and the Santa Clara Valley.
