PSTA Invites Federal Employees Impacted by the Shutdown to Ride For Free
U.S. executive branch employees are now in the fifth week of the government shutdown and hundreds of thousands of federal workers are going without a paycheck, even as they continue to face daily expenses and other financial obligations.
Pinellas County is unique in that we are home to the U.S. Coast Guard Clearwater station with more than 1,100 brave members who are still conducting dangerous rescues and putting their lives at risk in order to save others and protect our coasts.
In addition to the U.S. Coast Guard, Pinellas is also home to many Transportation Safety Administration workers at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and Tampa International Airport as well as many retired federal employees.
“We are very grateful for the service of federal employees and federal retirees here in Pinellas County and as a community, we must do anything we can to support them during these troubling times,” says PSTA CEO, Brad Miller. “Our mission is to safely connect people to places and we want to ensure our unpaid federal employees have the opportunity to get to wherever they need to go.”
Federal workers can simply show their government identification card and ride any PSTA bus route for free starting today. This offer will be extended 30 days past the end of the shutdown in order to compensate for their hardship.
