New Flyer of America Inc. has announced it has signed on to CALSTART’s Global Commercial Drive to Zero (“D2Z”) pledge in support of fast-tracking adoption of clean trucks and buses.

The Global Commercial Drive to Zero pledge is a coordinated, international effort championed by CALSTART and aimed at dramatically reducing emissions from trucks and buses in high-potential markets. It was announced just before the Global Climate Action Summit took place September 12-14 in San Francisco, California. The Pledge focuses on eight global market segments for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, with goals to achieve commercial success in each market internationally by 2025, and have zero emission technology dominate new sales in these segments by 2040. Current signatories include government, elected officials, and industry leaders.

“We’re proud to support the Global Commercial Drive to Zero, to further our commitment in reducing emissions and building sustainability in public transit,” said Wayne Joseph, president, New Flyer of America. “CALSTART initiated an impressive global movement with this pledge, and as North America’s only manufacturer of all three zero-emission transit buses, this continues our work in increasing the presence of zero-emission vehicles on the continent. It will bring us one step closer to healthier, more connected communities that leverage smart mobility solutions.”

CALSTART launched the multi-year program to enable and accelerate the growth of the global zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicle (MHDV) sector. Progress in this area will help countries achieve the greenhouse gas emissions targets established under the Paris Accord.

“New Flyer signing the Global Commercial Vehicle Drive to Zero pledge is yet another powerful sign that industry is ready and able to step up on climate and air quality goals,” said John Boesel, president and chief executive officer of CALSTART. “Global cities and regions are carrying these goals forward, but need support. The Drive to Zero work will help those leaders by providing guiding strategies and tools to quickly transform trucks and buses toward zero: bringing industry as an active partner.”
