Name the New RTC Bus Line

Jan. 21, 2016

In early 2018, the RTC will debut a new Rapid transit line to better link downtown Reno and downtown Sparks. Starting Jan. 19, members of the public will be able to submit their ideas to help name the new line. Everyone submitting an idea will be eligible to receive one free RTC 2-Ride pass.

The line will use all-electric buses and serve 4th Street in Reno and Prater Way in Sparks, helping better connect people to 7,000 jobs in the corridor and educational opportunities. It will also be easy for riders to connect to the RTC’s existing RAPID line that serves Virginia Street. The 4th Street/Prater Way Bus Rapid Transit Project is largely possible thanks to a $16 million federal grant and will also involve adding new bike lanes, wider sidewalks, undergrounding utilities and adding landscaping amenities. The project will also include new historically-themed transit stations in the corridor, which was a component in developing the project.

To submit a name for consideration, just log on to the RTC Facebook page at: http://facebook.com/rtcwashoe and fill out the survey. Some early suggestions include the Lincoln Line, as the roadway used to be part of the Lincoln Highway, the Lightning Line and the Zephyr Line. Submissions will also be accepted at the RTC transit stations in downtown Reno and Victorian Square in Sparks. All the suggestions will be reviewed by the RTC; the name will be announced in the spring.
